Air India Flight AI-159 Cancelled

Following a recent accident, Air India's flight AI-159, which was scheduled to depart from Ahmedabad to London, was unable to take off on Tuesday due to technical difficulties. This incident marks the third occurrence involving Air India flights within the last 24 hours. The flight was set to leave at 1:10 PM today, and the airline has announced that refunds will be issued to affected passengers. Last week, a tragic accident involving flight AI-171 resulted in the loss of 274 lives in a residential area of Ahmedabad. In light of this disaster, AI-159 was introduced as a replacement for the ill-fated flight.

Details on the Aircraft Involved

Data from FlightRadar24 indicated that the aircraft operating on this route was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the same model involved in the recent Air India accident. Following the fatal incident on Thursday, Air India and Air India Express have decided to discontinue the use of flight number ‘171’. Reports confirm that 241 individuals lost their lives in this tragic event, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, bound for London Gatwick.

Changes in Flight Operations

Sources revealed on Saturday that it is common practice for airlines to cease using specific flight numbers after serious accidents. Consequently, starting June 17, the flight number for the Ahmedabad-London Gatwick route will change from ‘AI 171’ to ‘AI 159’. Necessary adjustments have already been made in the booking system as of Friday. Additionally, Air India Express has opted to retire its flight number ‘IX 171’ as well.
