A Remarkable Achievement for AIPA

Pune (Maharashtra) [India] - The All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) has reached a significant milestone with its Grassroots Development Programme, as athletes showcased remarkable skills at the first-ever West Zone Pickleball Championship held at Musclebar Sports Club in Undri, Pune.

This championship, organized by AIPA in collaboration with the Amateur Pickleball Association Maharashtra and Pune District Pickleball Association, saw participation from 317 players hailing from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Goa, according to a press release.

In recent years, AIPA has dedicated itself to discovering and nurturing talent through its grassroots initiatives, paving the way for players to advance from novices to national and international competitors. The impressive results at the West Zone Championship reflect this ongoing commitment, with athletes excelling in junior, open, and masters categories.

Following strong showings at the East Zone Championship, this success underscores the growing strength of AIPA's development framework nationwide. With the South Zone Championship on the horizon, AIPA is optimistic that its rising stars will continue to excel and enhance India's pickleball talent pool.

Leading the medal tally was Anjali, who emerged as a standout player, securing five medals, including three golds in U-18 Girls Singles, U-18 Girls Doubles, and U-18 Mixed Doubles. International competitor Shreyas Rajaram also claimed five medals across junior and open categories, while fellow international athlete Vrushali Thakare won gold in both Open Women’s Doubles and Open Mixed Doubles.

The junior categories highlighted the success of AIPA's grassroots program, with young talents like Aaradhya Satpute, Arnav Khamkar, Jay Agrawal, Aadya Vinod, Aarav Surve, and Piyush Gaikwad achieving medal-winning performances. Their accomplishments showcase the growing pool of talent being cultivated through structured coaching and competitive opportunities provided by the association.

The success story continued in the open and masters divisions, where players excelled across various events. International representatives Noah Ashtamkar, Abhijit Kelkar, and Neelima Utgikar contributed valuable medals in the masters categories, emphasizing the strength of AIPA athletes across all age groups.

Commenting on the performances, AIPA President Arvind Prabhoo stated, “The outcomes at the West Zone Championship are incredibly gratifying as they affirm the vision behind our Grassroots Development Programme. For years, AIPA has focused on creating opportunities for young players to learn, compete, and grow. Today, we are witnessing those efforts translate into success at zonal, national, and international levels. After strong performances in the East Zone, our players have once again showcased their quality in the West Zone, and we anticipate their continued success in the South Zone Championship. The future of Indian pickleball is promising, and these athletes exemplify that progress.”

AIPA also expressed gratitude to the organizers for successfully hosting the inaugural West Zone Pickleball Championship. Special thanks were given to Pune District Pickleball Association President Rajesh Bhambhani, Secretary Aniket Durgawali, Vice Presidents Amiraj Chowdhury and Gajendra Singh Chauhan, Secretary Kuldeep Ruchandani, and Coach Ajay Chaudhari for their efforts in planning and executing a high-quality championship that provided athletes with an excellent platform to compete.

The championship concluded after three days of intense competition, serving as a strong endorsement of AIPA's grassroots vision, with players developed through the program continuing to achieve the results and success that the association has long envisioned for Indian pickleball.
