Aiden Markram Discusses Embracing Pressure Ahead of SA20 Season 4
Markram on Embracing 'Healthy Pressure'
As the fourth season of the South Africa20 (SA20) approaches, Aiden Markram, captain of Durban's Super Giants, shared his thoughts on managing the expectations that come with aiming for a title. The tournament is scheduled to commence on December 26, featuring a thrilling opening match where the defending champions, MI Cape Town, will face off against the Super Giants at the scenic Newlands. The following day, the Pretoria Capitals will begin their season against the Joburg Super Kings.
In an interview with JioStar Press Room, Markram expressed, "The pressure associated with winning two titles at Sunrisers Eastern Cape and now being part of Durban's Super Giants is a healthy one. The franchise has previously reached the finals and boasts a strong coaching team and solid management. As captain, my goal is to contribute to our success in reaching the playoffs, competing in the finals, and ultimately lifting the trophy. If additional pressure arises, I embrace it, give my utmost effort, and see where it takes us in the end."
SA20 Commissioner on League's Growth
Graeme Smith, the SA20 League Commissioner and former South African captain, highlighted significant milestones in the tournament's development. He stated, "We have diligently worked to dominate the December-January-February period, achieving remarkable success in this endeavor. Witnessing fans return to South African cricket with large crowds is a significant achievement for us. Our primary goal is to provide players and teams with the best opportunities to excel and enhance the future of South African cricket. In terms of viewership and global reach, we have achieved impressive figures, establishing ourselves as the largest league outside of India. Commercially, we continue to thrive, attracting strong partnerships for the future. When we travel globally, cricket enthusiasts rave about the vibrancy of South Africa, competitive matches, and the summer excitement showcased on television—these aspects must continue to shine as we grow each year," Smith remarked.
