Cricket Festival Atmosphere in the City
As the IPL final approaches, the entire city is immersed in a cricket festival vibe. By 6 PM on Monday, over 40,000 travelers had passed through the airport, with more than 250 flights in operation. The summer holidays have also contributed to the increased number of visitors, making Ahmedabad a significant cricket hub once again for the high-stakes final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Hotels and Restaurants Reap Benefits
The airport isn't the only sector benefiting from the IPL; the hotel industry is also thriving. More than 85% of bookings have been made across five-star and budget hotels in the city. The influx of cricket fans has brought life to restaurants and local eateries, with visitors spending generously on food and entertainment.
Police Crack Down on Ticket Scalping
Amidst the high demand for IPL final tickets, some individuals are attempting to exploit the situation. On Sunday, police apprehended three individuals selling tickets at inflated prices. One incident occurred near Gate 1 of the Narendra Modi Stadium, where a young couple was caught selling eight tickets priced at ₹2,500 each. Another case involved a person at Commerce Six Roads selling tickets originally priced at ₹1,500 and ₹2,000 for ₹5,000 and ₹6,000, respectively.
Legal Action Under Gujarat Police Act
The three individuals face charges under the Gujarat Police Act. Authorities have stated that strict measures will be enforced to prevent such incidents, ensuring that genuine fans can enjoy the game without any hassle.
