Afghanistan Sets a High Target in U19 World Cup Semifinal
Harare: In a thrilling semifinal match of the U-19 World Cup, Afghanistan set a formidable target of 310 runs for India, thanks to outstanding centuries from Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai.
Faisal was the standout performer, scoring 110 runs off 93 balls, while Niazai contributed an impressive unbeaten 101 runs from 86 balls, showcasing the Indian bowlers' struggle to take wickets consistently.
Choosing to bat first, Afghanistan began strongly with an opening partnership of 53 runs between Osman Sadat and Khalid Ahmadzai before Deepesh Devendran claimed the first wicket in the 13th over.
Ahmadzai, who scored 31 runs off 39 balls, fell to a length delivery that resulted in a faint edge to wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu.
Faisal then formed a solid partnership of 64 runs with Sadat, further solidifying Afghanistan's position.
However, Indian spinner Kanishk Chouhan made a breakthrough at the start of the 25th over, dismissing Sadat, who scored 39 runs off 70 balls after playing a loose shot.
Following Sadat's exit, Faisal found a reliable partner in Niazai, and together they built a significant third-wicket partnership. Faisal hit 15 boundaries, while Niazai struck 12 fours and cleared the boundary twice.
Brief scores:
Afghanistan: 310/4 in 50 overs (Faisal Shinozada 110, Uzairullah Niazai not out 101).
