AFC Bournemouth Welcomes Marco Rose as New Head Coach on Three-Year Deal
Marco Rose Takes the Helm at AFC Bournemouth
London [UK], April 21: AFC Bournemouth has officially announced the hiring of Marco Rose as their new head coach, signing him to a three-year contract. The German manager will take over at the conclusion of the current season, following the exit of Andoni Iraola.
Last week, Iraola, aged 43, declared that he would not extend his contract with the club, prompting Bournemouth to act quickly in their search for a new leader. Rose emerged as the top choice for the position, and negotiations were swiftly concluded.
As reported by ESPN, the 49-year-old brings a wealth of experience from his time managing in both German and Austrian leagues. His previous roles include stints at RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Borussia Monchengladbach, and he has been without a club since departing Leipzig in March 2025. Earlier in his career, he also worked with Lokomotive Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.
In Austria, Rose achieved significant success, leading Salzburg to two league championships and a domestic cup victory. He further enhanced his trophy cabinet in Germany, securing the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup during his tenure with Leipzig.
While Bournemouth also considered candidates like Kieran McKenna from Ipswich Town and Inigo Perez from Rayo Vallecano, they ultimately chose Rose for his extensive experience in high-stakes European competitions.
Rose's appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Bournemouth, who are currently enjoying a solid season in the Premier League. The team is positioned eighth in the standings and is vying for a spot in European competitions, trailing Chelsea FC in sixth place only by goal difference.
As Bournemouth prepares for its fifth consecutive season in the Premier League, the early announcement of Rose's hiring is anticipated to support long-term strategies as the club aims to build on its recent achievements and potentially embark on its inaugural European journey.
