Aditya Tare Highlights MS Dhoni's Crucial Role for CSK Ahead of IPL 2026 Clash
MS Dhoni's Significance for Chennai Super Kings
Aditya Tare, an Indian cricketer, has stressed the vital role of MS Dhoni for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they prepare for their much-anticipated Southern Derby against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026 this Saturday evening. During his appearance on Star Sports and JioStar, Tare expressed that the five-time champions would greatly benefit from Dhoni's dual role as a wicketkeeper and mentor, particularly with a relatively inexperienced squad.
Need for Dhoni's Experience
"Chennai Super Kings require MS Dhoni now more than ever. If he is fit, he must play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in any role. Personally, I would prefer him to keep wickets for the entire 20 overs due to his exceptional skills behind the stumps. While I respect Sanju's wicketkeeping, the experience Dhoni brings is irreplaceable," Tare remarked.
Support for Young Players
Tare further emphasized the significance of Dhoni's leadership for the younger members of the CSK team, including debutants Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. "With a youthful lineup, our debutants need the mentorship of someone as seasoned as Mahi bhai," he noted.
Dhoni's Influence on Team Dynamics
Tare also pointed out Dhoni's calming presence during tense moments, particularly in guiding the bowling unit and assisting captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. "Mahi bhai has consistently supported Ruturaj and the bowlers. His ongoing communication with the bowlers provides an additional advantage for Chennai against SRH," he added.
Dhoni's Retention and Performance
Dhoni was retained by CSK as an 'uncapped player' for Rs 4 crore prior to IPL 2025, a decision that has been carried over into IPL 2026, maintaining his salary at Rs 4 crore. In IPL 2025, Dhoni had a commendable season, scoring 196 runs across 14 matches with an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17.
Upcoming Match: CSK vs SRH
Following two consecutive victories at home, CSK aims to secure a third win away from home, while SRH looks to defend their stronghold. SRH has achieved two wins out of five matches this season.
