Aditya Patnaik Claims First International Racing Victory in Malaysia

Aditya Patnaik's Historic Win

Indian racer Aditya Patnaik achieved a remarkable victory in the Sporting Class at Round 3 of the Gold Vios Championship held at the renowned Sepang International Circuit on Sunday night. His impressive performance earned him a prize of 15,000 MYR.

Race Weekend Challenges

The Mumbai native, representing Rayo Racing and driving for Team Axle Sports, led by former F1 driver Alex Young, faced a tough qualifying session, finishing fourth. The unpredictable weather and rain made the qualifying rounds particularly challenging for the 21-car Sporting Class grid.

In Race 1, Aditya struggled initially, losing positions as the leading cars jostled for position in the early laps. He engaged in a fierce battle with Malaysia's Taj Aiman, ultimately finishing third behind Lew Xuan Yan and Aiman.

Race 2 Comeback

The starting positions for Race 2 were determined by reversing the top eight finishers from Race 1, placing Aditya sixth. He made a strong start, quickly moving up to third by Lap 3. After a brief safety car period, he advanced to second place and then took the lead after a fierce contest with Adam Mikail. Aditya maintained his lead despite another safety car deployment, securing his first international victory ahead of Mikail and Ariff Azmi.

Celebrating the Victory

"Race 1 was a tough battle, but Race 2 was my best of the year. Earning the lead and winning felt incredible," Aditya shared after the race.

Saurav Bandyopadhyay, CEO of Rayo Racing, praised Aditya's versatility, stating, "He has excelled in every category, from Karting to Formula Cars, and now in the Vios Challenge during his first international season."

Alex Young also commended Aditya's quick adaptation to racing in Malaysia, noting, "His victory today is a testament to his dedication and hard work."

A Remarkable Comeback

Aditya, who won the FMSCI National Karting Championship in 2023, faced a serious setback last year when he suffered a high-speed accident in a single-seater race, resulting in a broken arm and two months away from racing. He has made a strong comeback this season.

With one round remaining in the championship, Aditya currently stands third with 88 points.
