Addya Katyal's Triumph at the National Shooting Championship
New Delhi, December 30: In a remarkable display of skill and composure, Addya Katyal from Delhi secured the junior women's Trap championship at the ongoing 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions (Shotgun) held at the Karni Singh Shooting Range.
Katyal topped the event with an impressive score of 42 hits, narrowly defeating Sabeera Haris from Uttar Pradesh, who finished with 41 hits to take home the silver medal. The bronze medal was claimed by Tanisska Senthilkumar of Tamil Nadu, who managed 28 hits, according to a statement from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
Earlier in the competition, Addya had excelled in the qualification round, achieving a remarkable 112 hits, which set the stage for her strong performance in the final. Bhavya Tripathi from Delhi qualified second with 110 hits but ended the final in sixth place with just 11 hits.
Tanisska secured the third qualification spot with 105 hits, followed by Darshna Rathore from Rajasthan with 104, Sabeera Haris with 102, and Ananya Yaduvanshi from Delhi with 101, rounding out the top six who advanced to the medal round.
During the final, Addya showcased her ability to maintain focus under pressure, pulling ahead at critical moments to clinch the gold. Sabeera remained competitive until the final series, ultimately finishing just one hit behind. Tanisska held her ground during the middle stages of the final to secure third place, while Darshna Rathore and Ananya Yaduvanshi finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 23 and 17.
In the team events, Delhi emerged victorious in the junior women's trap category with a combined score of 323, thanks to the contributions of Addya Katyal, Bhavya Tripathi, and Ananya Yaduvanshi. Tamil Nadu followed in second place with a total of 295, represented by Tanisska Senthilkumar, Nilaa Rajaa Baalu, and Anthra Rajsekar. Rajasthan secured third place with a score of 274, featuring Darshna Rathore, Maitreyi Singh, and Mahika Kitawat.
The 68th NSCC will continue into the new year, with the 10m Air Rifle Women finals set for January 2, 2026, at the MP State Shooting Academy in Bhopal, while the Trap Men final will occur on the same day at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi.
Other Notable Results
In the 50m Rifle Prone Women category, Priya from ARMU took gold with a score of 626.3, followed closely by Ashi Chouksey from Madhya Pradesh with silver (625.7) and Nischal from Haryana with bronze (624.3).
In the senior team event, Haryana clinched gold with a total of 1863.1, while Punjab and Madhya Pradesh secured silver and bronze, respectively.
In junior events, Nischal from Haryana led with 624.3, followed by Nimrat Kaur Brar from Punjab and Tilottama Sen from Karnataka. Punjab's junior team also won gold with a score of 1855.5.
In the youth category, Nimrat Kaur Brar took gold with 622.7, while Mahit Sandhu from Chandigarh won gold in the Deaf category with a score of 615.0.
In civilian events, Nimrat Kaur Brar again excelled, winning gold with 622.7, and her team also secured gold in the civilian junior team event.
In the master category, Tejaswini Sawant from Maharashtra won gold, while Ashok Pandit from Maharashtra took gold in both the senior master and super master categories.
