Abhishek Sharma Soars to No. 1 in ICC T20 Rankings After Stunning Century
Abhishek Sharma's Remarkable Achievement
In Dubai, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the top position in the ICC men's T20 International batting rankings after an explosive century against New Zealand in Wellington.
On Tuesday, Abhishek scored his fourth T20I century, amassing 113 runs off just 38 deliveries, leading India to a six-wicket victory and pushing Ishan Kishan down from the top spot.
Kishan, sidelined due to injury during the second and third T20Is of the five-match series, has now fallen to third place, with Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan taking the second position.
The ICC noted that Abhishek's impressive innings allowed him to regain the No. 1 ranking among T20I batters.
Currently, Abhishek holds 897 rating points, followed by Farhan with 883 and Kishan with 866.
Kishan had previously ascended to the top rank in July after his stellar performances in Ireland, overtaking Abhishek.
Meanwhile, India's T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has dropped five spots to rank ninth with 758 rating points.
In Test cricket, South Africa's Marco Jansen has taken over as the top-ranked all-rounder, surpassing India's Ravindra Jadeja following his outstanding performances against Australia.
Jansen has also become the leading Test bowler, replacing Australia's Mitchell Starc, who has now fallen to second place.
The ICC highlighted Jansen's dual achievements, noting his significant contributions during South Africa's victory over Australia in the second ICC World Test Championship match, where he scored 85 runs and took five wickets in the first innings.
Additionally, Jansen has climbed 13 spots in the ICC Test batting rankings, now sitting at 56.
Jadeja had maintained his position for over four years, while Jansen's rise has been acknowledged by former South African cricketer Dale Steyn, who referred to him as 'the best cricketer in the world.'
In the latest updates for Test bowlers, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has slipped one position to fifth with 853 rating points.
In women's ODI rankings, South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt has overtaken India's Smriti Mandhana to claim the No. 1 spot.
Smriti is now ranked second in ODIs and fourth among T20I batters, just behind her teammate Shafali Verma.
