Abhishek Sharma's Rise in T20I Rankings
Dubai: In the latest ICC T20I batting rankings unveiled on Wednesday, India's Abhishek Sharma has ascended to the second position, while his teammate Ishan Kishan maintains the lead. This comes after India secured a commanding 2-0 lead in their three-match series against Afghanistan.
Abhishek's impressive performance, scoring 82 runs in the first match, allowed him to surpass Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan. He is currently 51 rating points behind Kishan, who remains at the top of the T20I batting leaderboard.
Another Indian player, Sanju Samson, also made notable strides, moving up four spots to 30th place following his solid half-century in the second game against Afghanistan.
India's bowlers have also seen significant improvements in the T20I rankings. Varun Chakaravarthy advanced two positions to fifth, while Jasprit Bumrah jumped seven spots to 10th. Arshdeep Singh made an impressive leap of 11 places to 14th, and Axar Patel rose six spots to 27th after a commendable performance against Afghanistan.
Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai also made headway in the T20I all-rounder rankings after his unbeaten half-century in the series opener.
In the ODI rankings, three Australian players improved their standings following a 59-run victory over Zimbabwe in their series opener in Harare. Nathan Ellis climbed 20 places to 20th among ODI bowlers after a five-wicket haul, while Matthew Renshaw, who was named Player of the Match for his 109 runs, moved from outside the top 100 to 68th among batters. Cooper Connolly also rose nine spots to 77th in the ODI batting rankings after scoring 51 runs at No. 3 against Zimbabwe.
In Test rankings, England's Ollie Robinson achieved a career-high rating, moving up two places to third among bowlers after taking 21 wickets in a recent three-Test series against Pakistan. His teammate Josh Tongue also reached a career-best ranking, climbing two spots to 11th after claiming 19 wickets in the series. Robinson's half-century in the third Test at Birmingham helped him ascend seven places to 13th in the Test all-rounder rankings.
Despite Pakistan's 3-0 series loss, skipper Babar Azam improved his position, moving up two places to 13th among Test batters. Shan Masood also climbed four spots to 37th due to his outstanding performance in the final match of the series. England's wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith moved up three places to 20th after scoring a half-century in the first innings of the third Test.
