In a thrilling encounter against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, Abhishek Sharma achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new record for the fastest half-century by an opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).


After a disappointing performance in his previous match where he scored a duck, Abhishek made a stunning comeback, scoring 59 runs off just 22 balls, which included six fours and four sixes. His innings boasted an impressive strike rate exceeding 268. A standout moment was when he scored 25 runs off Matthew Short in the fifth over, reaching his fifty in a mere 15 balls, surpassing his own previous record of a 16-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians in 2024. This achievement marks the third-fastest fifty in IPL history, following Yashasvi Jaiswal's 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, and the 14-ball fifties by KL Rahul, Pat Cummins, and Romario Shepherd.

So far this season, Abhishek has participated in six matches, accumulating 188 runs with an average of 31.33 and a strike rate of 229.26, which includes two fifties and a top score of 74.
