Abhishek Sharma's Conduct Under Scrutiny

Kolkata: Abhishek Sharma, an all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has been penalized with a 25% deduction from his match fee and a demerit point due to a breach of the IPL's Code of Conduct during a recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The match referee determined that Abhishek violated Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the use of language that is considered offensive, obscene, or profane. This includes any remarks that can be heard by spectators or viewers, whether through the stump microphone or otherwise, such as swearing in frustration.

According to an IPL statement, "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25% of his match fees and has received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday."

Abhishek has acknowledged the penalty and accepted the sanctions. The statement continued, "He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

In a remarkable performance, Abhishek scored 48 runs off just 21 balls, hitting four sixes and four boundaries. This achievement made him the first Indian player to hit 100 sixes in the IPL while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

SRH showcased a dominant all-round performance, winning the match by 65 runs against KKR. They set a formidable target of 226 for 8, while their disciplined bowling attack restricted the hosts to 161 runs. This victory marks Sunrisers Hyderabad as the first team this season to successfully defend a total, breaking the trend of chasing teams dominating the early tournament results.
