Abhigyan Kundu Makes History with Double Century in U19 Asia Cup
Historic Performance by Kundu
In a remarkable display of skill, Abhigyan Kundu, the wicketkeeper-batter for India Under-19, made headlines today by scoring an impressive double century. This achievement propelled the India U19 team to a staggering total of 408 runs for the loss of 7 wickets against Malaysia U19 during the Group A match of the ACC Men's U19 Asia Cup 2025, held at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. Malaysia U19 opted to field first after winning the toss.
Kundu's Record-Breaking Innings
Kundu's innings was the highlight of the match, marking him as the first Indian player and only the second in history to achieve a double century in a Youth ODI. After a shaky start, where India lost their captain Ayush Mhatre (14 runs off 7 balls) and Vihaan Malhotra (7 runs off 14 balls), the team managed to recover. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (50 runs off 26 balls) and Vedant Trivedi (90 runs off 106 balls) played crucial roles in stabilizing the innings, leading India to a formidable score of 408/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Partnerships and Aggressive Play
Following Suryavanshi's dismissal, Kundu took charge, hitting boundaries from the outset. He formed a remarkable partnership with Trivedi, accumulating 209 runs off 181 balls, and later teamed up with Kanishk Chouhan to add another 87 runs in just 36 balls. Kundu's innings included 17 fours and 9 sixes.
Milestones Achieved
Kundu reached his fifty in a mere 44 balls and celebrated his century in just 80 balls, setting the stage for a powerful finish. He completed his double century in just 121 balls, finishing with an unbeaten score of 209. This performance not only set a target of 409 runs for Malaysia but also broke Ambati Rayudu's previous record of 177 runs, the highest score by an Indian in Under-19 ODIs. The only other player to score a double century in Youth ODIs is South Africa's Jorich Van Schalkwyk, who scored 212 runs against Zimbabwe U19s in 2025.
