AB de Villiers Backs Virat Kohli as RCB Eyes IPL 2025 Title
AB de Villiers Praises Kohli Ahead of IPL 2025 Final
AB de Villiers, a legendary figure in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has expressed his unwavering support for Virat Kohli as the team prepares for the IPL 2025 final. He referred to Kohli as 'the ultimate team player' and commended the strong sense of unity and balance within the RCB squad this season. With RCB reaching the final for the first time since 2016, de Villiers highlighted a significant turning point that occurred during the auction.
During a discussion on JioHotstar following RCB's victory in the qualifier, de Villiers noted that Kohli's leadership and focus have been apparent, even in matches where he hasn't performed with the bat.
"The first time I saw him on the screen for the PBKS vs RCB match, I noticed his intense focus. That’s the kind of body language we’ve come to expect from him. What stands out is that even when he didn’t score runs, he was there celebrating with his teammates. He embodies the spirit of a true team player and appears very focused. The job isn’t finished yet, but I’m eager to see him in action. I’m confident he will play a crucial role in the final."
De Villiers’ comments come at a pivotal moment when Kohli's contributions to RCB have shifted towards providing stability and mentorship rather than just accumulating runs. His desire for the championship is well-known, and the upcoming final offers a prime opportunity to end the franchise's 17-year title drought.
AB de Villiers Highlights RCB's Squad Strength in 2025
Reflecting on past disappointments in 2011 and 2016, de Villiers believes that RCB is now in its best position to claim the title. He asserts that the real transformation began even before the tournament started, specifically during the IPL 2025 auction.
"Many consider 2011 a missed opportunity for the title, and while 2016 is often discussed, it’s time to focus on the present. RCB is in another final in 2025, and it’s closer than it seems. I felt that the auction was when RCB truly found the right balance this year. The team is not reliant on a single batting or bowling strategy; they have diverse options."
De Villiers emphasized that this RCB team is not dependent on a few star players. Instead, it has been a collective effort, showcasing a strong team culture with contributions from all members.
"I was impressed with the squad when I first saw it. They have managed to come together as a cohesive unit. Each player has stepped up at different times, which is indicative of a positive team environment."
RCB is set to face a significant challenge on June 3rd, where they will compete against the winner of Qualifier Two in the final.
