Aaliya Ebrahim's Remarkable Victory

In a thrilling showdown at the Picklebay Zonals - North, Aaliya Ebrahim emerged victorious against Mihika Yadav, securing the Open Women's Singles title. This victory significantly boosts her chances of being selected for the upcoming Pickleball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 30 to September 6. The tournament, held from June 24 to 28, serves as the final selection event for senior players.

Aaliya's win was particularly sweet, as she had previously lost to Mihika in the bronze medal match at the BIDV Cup in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this week. The final match at Gurgaon's Horizon x Courtplay was another nail-biter, with Aaliya showcasing her determination after losing the first game 6-11. She rallied back to win the next two games 11-6 and 11-4, demonstrating exceptional shot-making and court coverage.

Throughout the PWR 700 tournament, Aaliya displayed remarkable skill. She began her journey with a dominant 15-1 victory over Shrawni Deshmukh in the first round and continued her impressive form by defeating Danielle Jones 15-4 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she overcame Sharmada Balu with scores of 11-7 and 11-4, setting the stage for her final match against Mihika, who had previously excelled in her semifinal against Snehal Patil.

Despite her impressive performance, Aaliya's selection for the World Cup is not guaranteed. The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) will consider consistency in national and international tournaments, along with performances since the last World Cup held in Florida in late 2025, as crucial factors in the selection process for all divisions, including sub-junior, junior, and senior pro categories.

Earlier this month, the IPA announced the sub-junior and junior teams for the Pickleball World Cup following selection trials at the inaugural Junior Pickleball Championship in Ahmedabad.
