Zoom into the Future: Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro Redefine Smartphone Photography with Periscope Zoom Technology

Xiaomi is reportedly all set to unveil the highly anticipated Xiaomi 14 series of smartphones in China. Industry reports suggest that these devices, expected to hit the market in November, will be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which could debut in October this year. Notably, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, along with the previously announced Xiaomi 14 Ultra, are rumored to feature a periscope zoom camera. Periscope zoom capabilities provide users with enhanced optical zoom capabilities, enabling them to capture distant subjects with precision.

According to a well-known tipster digital chat station, the Xiaomi 14 Pro's periscope telephoto camera will offer 5x optical zoom with an impressive 115mm focal length. Meanwhile, its sibling, the Xiaomi 14, will have a periscope telephoto camera with 3.9x optical zoom and a shorter 90mm focal length. The leaker did not share any other information on the cameras in the Xiaomi 14 lineup.

Previous reports have claimed that, like the Xiaomi 13 Pro, its successor will have three 50-megapixel cameras on its back. It is rumored to include a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an ultra-wide lens and a zoom camera. There is no information about the camera setup of Xiaomi 14. According to reports, the Xiaomi 14 Pro's front-facing camera will support 4K video recording, promising high-quality selfies and video calls.

There have also been rumors about the Xiaomi 14 Pro's display options, suggesting the possibility of both flat and curved-edge display variants. Powering these variants will be a larger battery, with both models boasting a 5,000mAh capacity. Additionally, charging capabilities will differ between models, with the Xiaomi 14 supporting up to 90W charging and the Pro variant potentially offering a faster 120W charging speed.

Along with Xiaomi 14 the model numbers have been revealed for both the devices bearing the designation 23127PN0CC (China) and 23127PN0CG (Global). On the other hand, the model numbers 23116PN5BC and 23116PN5BG belong to the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be launched next year. The final flagship may launch in China in Q1 2024.
