Yashasvi Jaiswal on the Brink of Breaking Indian Test Cricket Record

Approaching a Historic Milestone
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the promising young batsman from India, is poised to make a significant mark in Test cricket by potentially breaking a longstanding record. Since his international debut in 2023, the left-handed opener has impressed fans and critics alike with his remarkable performances, now just 202 runs shy of reaching 2000 Test runs. Achieving this milestone would make him the fastest Indian to do so.
Fastest 2000 Runs Within Reach
Currently, Jaiswal has accumulated 1798 runs across 19 Test matches, spanning 36 innings, with an impressive average of 52.88, including four centuries and ten half-centuries. If he manages to cross the 2000-run threshold within his next three innings, he will surpass the records set by cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, both of whom reached this milestone in 40 innings.
Upcoming Challenges in England
The upcoming Test series in England, commencing on June 20, will pose a significant challenge for Jaiswal, especially given the notoriously swinging conditions. His performance in the warm-up matches against the England Lions has been modest, with only one half-century in four innings, adding pressure on him to quickly adapt and deliver when it matters most.
Confidence from Strong Overseas Performance
Despite a slow start in England, Jaiswal has shown his capabilities on foreign soil. He was India's second-highest run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, amassing 391 runs in 10 innings at an average of 43.44, which included one century and two fifties. This form is likely to bolster his confidence as he prepares for the Tests against England.
