Tabu Discusses the Role of Directors in Her Acting Journey

Mumbai: Renowned actress Tabu recently shared her thoughts on the pivotal role directors play in her acting career during a nostalgic media session.

She emphasized her identity as a 'director's actor,' indicating that her performances are significantly influenced by the filmmaker's vision.

Tabu expressed that her primary concern is the overall quality of the film, placing her character's development as a secondary priority.

She remarked, "Even if I am fortunate to have a great role, it ultimately falls on the director to extract the best performance from me."

The Andhadhun star stated, "I believe that the quality of my performance, and whether the film succeeds or fails, is largely determined by the director. Thus, having a competent director is crucial for me."

She further added, "My first requirement is a capable and thoughtful director, followed by the significance of my role. A good director is essential to bring out my best performance. I rely heavily on the director; I consider myself a director's artist."

Tabu made her acting debut in 1985 as a teenager in Dev Anand’s Hum Naujawan. Her first leading role came in 1991 with the Telugu film Coolie No. 1.

She achieved her first major success in 1994 with the Hindi film Vijaypath.

Looking ahead, Tabu is set to reprise her role as former Inspector General Meera Deshmukh in Drishyam 3: The Conclusion.

This project, led by Ajay Devgn, will also feature notable actors such as Prakash Raj, Jaideep Ahlawat, Ishita Dutt, Shriya Saran, and Rajat Kapoor.

Written and directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 3 is produced by Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak.

The film, presented by Star Studio18 and produced by Panorama Studios, is anticipated to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
