To know if your smartphone will be affected, you can check the operating system version in your phone's settings. For Android, go to Settings > About phone > Software info. For iOS, go to Settings > General > About.

Here are the supported operating systems for WhatsApp:

Android 5.1 and up
iPhone runs iOS 12 and later
Phones running KaiOS 2.5.0 and above including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
If you are unable to update your device, you will need to switch to a new device to continue using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp regularly reviews the operating systems it supports to ensure it can continue to provide the best possible experience for its users. When it stops supporting an operating system, it's usually because the operating system is no longer widely used or is no longer able to meet WhatsApp's security requirements.
