Union Minister Encourages Cisco to Expand in India's Digital Landscape
Minister's Meeting with Cisco CEO
New Delhi, July 8: On Tuesday, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia held discussions with Cisco's CEO Chuck Robbins and his team, urging them to enhance their presence in India's dynamic digital technology sector and its expanding market.
During their conversation, the minister emphasized the need to tap into the country's immense potential and its vibrant workforce.
He highlighted Bharat's crucial role in spearheading the 6G revolution and India's increasing advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
"Meeting with Chuck Robbins and his team was a pleasure. We discussed ways to deepen Cisco's technological presence in India, particularly in Tier 2 and 3 markets, enhance cybersecurity, and develop solutions that genuinely impact lives at the grassroots level," the minister shared on the X social media platform.
Scindia expressed optimism about India's rise as a global digital leader, stating, "We aim to create a secure, inclusive, and future-ready Bharat."
He invited Cisco to consider broader investment avenues within India's digital technology landscape, pointing out the nation's emergence as a global innovation and investment hub.
The minister also stressed the significance of building ecosystems that go beyond mere physical infrastructure, empowering communities and preparing future generations.
This dialogue follows Cisco's growing footprint in India, including the launch of its first manufacturing facility in Chennai, which is set to open in 2024, with the minister in attendance.
As India moves towards a technology-driven future, Scindia welcomed Cisco's further engagement and collaboration to create solutions that promote inclusive, resilient, and future-ready digital growth.
In September of the previous year, Cisco inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India, projected to generate over $1.3 billion in annual revenue from combined exports and domestic production, while also creating 1,200 jobs.
Cisco partnered with local contract manufacturer Flex to successfully establish the facility, which will produce advanced telecom technology aimed at connecting citizens both in India and globally.
"The launch of Cisco's manufacturing facility in India, which produces advanced telecom equipment, showcases the country's growing self-reliance in the global technology arena," Scindia remarked during the facility's inauguration.
