Closure Announcement for Similipal Tiger Reserve


The Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha is set to close its doors to visitors starting July 1 due to the onset of the monsoon season, as announced by officials on Sunday.


According to STR Field Director Prakash Chand Gogineni, the specific date for the park's reopening will be communicated later through various media outlets.


Despite the closure of the reserve, the ecotourism facilities at Jamuani, Gurgudia, Kumari, Barehipani, and Ramtirtha will continue to welcome tourists.


In the fiscal year 2024-2025, Similipal attracted a total of 38,483 visitors, including 12 international tourists, generating a revenue of ₹4.26 crore.


The revenue breakdown includes ₹1.22 crore from jungle safaris, ₹2.75 crore from nature camps within the park, and ₹29 lakh from entry fees.


Covering an area of 2,750 square kilometers, the reserve boasts a rich diversity of flora, including 96 species of orchids, and is home to 42 mammal species and 242 bird varieties.
