Severe Rainfall Forecast: IMD Issues Alerts Across Multiple States

Heavy Rainfall Expected Nationwide

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a forecast for exceptionally heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) across various regions of the country in the upcoming week. As a precaution, red and orange alerts have been activated in several states.


On July 20, South-West Rajasthan is anticipated to experience very heavy rainfall, while South-East Rajasthan is also expected to see significant precipitation on the same day. Northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh, are likely to face heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 20 to 24, with a particular red alert for Uttarakhand from July 20 to 22.


In Western India, areas such as Konkan, Goa, the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra, and parts of Gujarat are forecasted to receive continuous rain until July 25. Meanwhile, in Southern India, Kerala and coastal Karnataka may encounter extremely heavy rainfall on July 20, with ongoing rain expected in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.


States like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at various locations from July 20 to 25, while North-East India is predicted to see rain accompanied by thunderstorms throughout the week.


Authorities are advising the public to heed weather warnings and remain vigilant against potential hazards such as floods, landslides, and lightning.
