Odisha Partners with CEGIS to Enhance Data-Driven Governance

Odisha's New Initiative for Data-Driven Governance

Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, the government of Odisha formalized a partnership with the Centre for Effective Governance of Indian States (CEGIS) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a Decision Support System (DSS) that promotes data-driven governance through analytical insights.

According to an official announcement from the Odisha government, this collaboration with CEGIS is part of their vision for a 'Viksit Odisha'.

The MoU, which is non-financial, commits to a five-year plan focused on enhancing institutional capacity within the state.

Currently, CEGIS Foundation collaborates with five Government of India institutions, including MoSPI, NITI Aayog, Capacity Building Commission, Karmayogi Bharat, and the India Intellectual Property Office.

The signing ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall in Lokaseva Bhawan, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chief Minister welcomed the CEGIS team to Odisha, a region known for its rich heritage and resilient spirit.

He emphasized that this MoU represents a pivotal advancement in governance reforms within Odisha, marking the start of a transformative journey that prioritizes data, evidence, and results in public service delivery.

The Deputy CM asserted the government's commitment to serving the state's residents effectively.

"Over the past year, our initiatives in health, education, disaster management, livelihoods, and digital infrastructure have been designed to ensure that every citizen benefits from efficient and equitable public services. Our solutions need to be smarter, more targeted, and responsive. The collaboration with CEGIS is crucial in this endeavor. Their expertise and research align with Odisha’s aspirations for 2036 and 2047, aimed at strengthening our institutions and systems," he stated.

Deo also mentioned that this partnership will provide essential technical and analytical support across various departments over the next five years, aiding in policy formulation, optimizing spending, and improving public service delivery in key sectors. He expressed gratitude to CEGIS for their commitment and collaboration in advancing the vision of Viksit Odisha for the years 2036 and 2047.
