Nitish Rana Cleared for DPL 2025 Auction After BCCI Reversal

Last-Minute Inclusion in DPL Auction

In an unexpected twist just before the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction, former KKR captain Nitish Rana has been approved to participate in the tournament. Initially deemed ineligible due to the BCCI's cooling-off clause, he has now been added to the auction pool, much to the delight of the East Delhi Riders' co-owner.

Return to Delhi Cricket

Earlier this year, Rana made his way back to Delhi following a lackluster two-year period with Uttar Pradesh. Struggling to find consistent form in both formats of the game, the left-handed batsman sought a fresh start in a familiar environment.

With the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC), Rana was cleared to compete for Delhi in national tournaments. However, uncertainty lingered regarding his eligibility for local leagues like the DPL due to the BCCI's one-year cooling-off rule for inter-state transfers.

Fortunately, this obstacle seems to have been resolved just in time.

Excitement for the DPL Auction

The East Delhi Riders, one of the franchises interested in Rana, quickly reacted to the news, confirming his inclusion in the auction pool. His availability adds an exciting dimension to the DPL auction, prompting teams to rethink their strategies and consider the veteran left-hander, who brings both leadership skills and batting prowess.

Overview of His State Transition

Rana initially moved to Uttar Pradesh in 2023, seeking new opportunities and a captaincy role in red-ball cricket. Despite being appointed captain, his performance, especially in white-ball formats, failed to leave a significant mark. Now, with his focus back on Delhi, he has obtained the necessary NOC to return.

However, Ashok Sharma, secretary of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), mentioned that while discussions have taken place and Rana has provided the NOC, the official written confirmation is still pending. Only upon receipt of this document can his re-induction be finalized.

"We’ve spoken to Nitish, and he has indicated that he possesses the NOC, but until we receive it officially, we cannot proceed with his eligibility for tournaments," Sharma stated.

Recent Performance and IPL Challenges

Rana's last appearance was during IPL 2025, where he represented the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The season proved challenging for him, as he managed only 217 runs at an average of 21.7. His time with UP was also marked by inconsistent performances, particularly in shorter formats, prompting his decision to return to Delhi.

Although Rana will not participate in this year's DPL, he is anticipated to rejoin Delhi's domestic setup in other formats, with hopes for a fresh start in the 2026 DPL season.
