MediaTek Helio G91 Chip Announced: Supports 108MP Camera and 90Hz FHD+ Displays
MediaTek has quietly launched the Helio G91 chipset, an upgrade to the Helio G88 introduced three years ago. This new system-on-chip (SoC) is designed to enhance the performance and capabilities of budget smartphones, with support for a 90Hz FHD+ display and a significant jump in camera capacity to support a 108MP main camera, a significant improvement from 64MP support. In its predecessor.

The Helio G91's octa-core CPU configuration includes two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz for intensive tasks and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz for efficiency, with an ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU clocked at 1.0GHz. This setup mirrors the G88, striking a balance between performance and power efficiency. The SoC has 8GB of LPDDR4x memory, as well as support for eMMC 5.1 storage.
One of the standout features of the G91 is its improved camera support. The chipset enables the devices to use 108MP sensors, which promises clearer and more detailed photographs in various lighting conditions. The in-sensor zoom capability, supported by 2.0um pixel binning, aims to improve low-light performance and deliver lossless portrait shots with greater detail. Additionally, MediaTek has included a suite of hardware accelerators to support advanced photography, such as dual camera bokeh, electronic image stabilization (EIS), and rolling shutter compensation (RSC).

The G91 also features MediaTek's HyperEngine gaming technology, designed to optimize performance across CPU, GPU and memory based on real-time power, thermal and gameplay factors. This ensures consistent performance and smooth gameplay. The chipset also supports dual 4G VoLTE, as well as Wi-Fi 5.
For drivers, the G91 includes an inertial navigation engine for accurate location tracking in areas without GPS service and voice wakeup capability for hands-free control, increasing safety and convenience.
