IndiGo Raises Fuel Surcharge Amid Soaring Jet Fuel Prices

IndiGo, India's largest airline, has announced an increase in fuel surcharges for both domestic and international flights, effective October 6. This decision comes in response to a significant rise in jet fuel prices, which have surged over 14% recently. The surcharge hike ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 350 for domestic flights, impacting airfares across the board. With aviation turbine fuel costs reaching a decade-high, IndiGo's adjustments reflect the broader challenges faced by airlines in managing operational expenses. Travelers should prepare for higher ticket prices as the airline recalibrates its fuel charges.

IndiGo's New Fuel Surcharge Announcement

New Delhi: IndiGo, the largest airline in India, has declared an increase in fuel surcharges for both domestic and international flights due to the escalating prices of jet fuel.

This adjustment will take effect on October 6, leading to higher airfares for travelers.

The surcharge increase varies between Rs 100 and Rs 350 for domestic flights, depending on the distance traveled. Additionally, international flights will also see a rise in their surcharges, as confirmed by the airline's statement.

IndiGo highlighted that the ongoing surge in fuel prices, with a recent month-on-month increase surpassing 14%, has driven aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs to some of the highest levels observed in the past decade.

Since ATF constitutes a major portion of airlines' operational expenses, this increase is anticipated to affect the cost structures and network economics of airlines, including IndiGo.

In light of these developments, the airline has made slight adjustments to its fuel charges for both domestic and international routes.
