IndiGo Faces Another Safety Incident: Flight Aborts Takeoff Due to Technical Issues

Emergency Situation at Ahmedabad Airport

New Delhi: IndiGo experienced another safety scare when a flight from Ahmedabad to Diu, carrying 60 passengers, had to abort its takeoff on Wednesday due to a technical issue.

The incident took place at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport shortly before 11 am, leading to an emergency response and the evacuation of passengers.

Fortunately, all individuals on board, including crew members, were evacuated safely without any injuries, as confirmed by the airline.

The flight, designated IndiGo 6E7966, was utilizing an ATR 72-600 aircraft. During the takeoff roll, the pilot observed unusual readings from the right engine.

Adhering to safety protocols, the flight crew promptly aborted the takeoff and issued a Mayday call to notify ground emergency teams.

The aircraft was successfully halted, and emergency personnel arrived swiftly at the scene. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides.

IndiGo acknowledged that the issue stemmed from a technical malfunction and assured that the aircraft would undergo a thorough inspection and maintenance before being cleared for service.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into this incident as part of a wider inquiry into recent technical difficulties encountered by Indian airlines.

This incident marks the third occurrence involving IndiGo in recent days. Just two days prior, on July 21, IndiGo flight 6E 813 from Goa to Indore had to make an emergency landing due to a suspected hydraulic issue in the wheel system.

The pilot had received an undercarriage warning while in flight, prompting the aircraft to circle Indore’s airspace before landing safely.

Fire brigades, medical teams, and airport officials were positioned along the runway in anticipation of a potentially dangerous landing.

The aircraft landed safely at 5:08 p.m., with all 140 passengers and crew members reported to be unharmed.

On July 20, another IndiGo flight (6E 6591) from Tirupati to Hyderabad was compelled to return shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue, leading to the cancellation of the flight after a safe landing.
