India's Commitment to Clean Mobility and Renewable Energy Gains Momentum
Advancements in Sustainable Mobility
During the 6th International Energy Conference and Exhibition, industry experts emphasized that India is making significant strides towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation. The focus is on alternative fuels, renewable energy sources, and reducing reliance on crude oil imports.
Puneet Anand, Assistant Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Affairs at Hyundai Motor India, highlighted the automobile sector's role in adopting new technologies. He noted, "This event centers around alternative energies, and today's session focused on Emerging Technologies for cleaner mobility. The Prime Minister has laid the groundwork for India to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070, and all stakeholders, including OEMs and the government, are committed to this vision of a self-reliant economy."
Anand further explained that the industry has already made headway with CNG and electric vehicles, and is now exploring flex-fuel and hydrogen-powered options. He stated, "These vehicles will help protect our economy, decrease crude oil imports, and utilize domestic resources like corn and sugarcane for energy-compliant vehicles."
Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Engineering & Industries, also stressed the significance of clean mobility solutions, particularly for heavy-duty transport. He shared insights on LNG for trucks, which can significantly enhance the distance traveled without recharging, presenting a remarkable solution for the transportation sector and the environment.
Sawhney mentioned the importance of ethanol blending, discussing targets beyond E20 and the potential for E27 and E100 environments, where consumers could access pure ethanol or ethanol-blended petrol at fuel stations nationwide. He expressed enthusiasm about the readiness of automobile manufacturers for this transition in Indian e-mobility.
Neerav Nanavaty, CEO of BluPine Energy, pointed out that the growth of renewable energy is crucial for India's long-term objectives. He stated, "This conference addresses renewable energy alongside other power sectors, aiming to unite all energy sources to fulfill the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat in the power sector."
Nanavaty called for ongoing policy support, noting that while the government has made significant progress in the renewable sector, further assistance is needed in areas like transmission access and stable policy frameworks to foster a self-sufficient manufacturing sector in India.
