India Set to Launch Its First Homegrown Semiconductor Chip by 2025

Hyderabad, July 19: Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, has revealed that the inaugural semiconductor chip produced in India is anticipated to debut in 2025.
During the 85th Foundation Day of the Keshav Memorial Educational Society in Hyderabad, Vaishnaw shared that the government has sanctioned six semiconductor fabrication facilities, which are currently under construction.
"Some of the most intricate chips are being designed in Indian cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, and Chennai. We are now initiating the manufacturing phase, and the first 'Made in India' chip is set to launch next year," he stated.
Vaishnaw also discussed advancements under the India AI Mission, mentioning that free datasets are being made available to foster innovation, alongside training for one million individuals in artificial intelligence.
In terms of economic forecasts, the Union Minister expressed confidence that India will rank among the top two global economies by 2047.
He noted a significant shift in global power dynamics from the West to the eastern hemisphere, with India emerging as a key player.
At another event, the 14th Convocation of IIT Hyderabad, Vaishnaw emphasized the remarkable growth of India's electronics sector.
He reported that electronics exports have surpassed $40 billion, marking an eight-fold increase over the last 11 years, while domestic electronics production has seen a six-fold rise during the same timeframe.
Additionally, he provided an update on India's first bullet train initiative, indicating that it is advancing swiftly and is projected to be operational by August or September 2027.
