Landslide in Mangaluru Causes Disruption
Landslide in Mangaluru Disrupts Roads and Damages Properties
A significant landslide in the outskirts of Mangaluru, specifically in Peramanki, has caused a major section of the road connecting Uliyibettu to Peramai Church to collapse, forcing local residents to take a longer route via Malluru to reach Mangaluru. Officials reported that the landslide has also damaged several homes and gardens. The debris from the landslide has spread over a kilometer of the road, uprooting numerous areca and coconut trees. Although the landslide occurred on Sunday, the debris had spread significantly by Tuesday evening. This has also blocked another road connecting Peramanki Padavi to Palikatte and Malluru Uddabetttu, severing access for hundreds of homes and forcing residents to seek alternative routes. Many families have been compelled to evacuate due to cracks appearing in their homes. Officials noted that several streams and drains in the upper areas of Peramanki flow towards the lower region of Kaiguri. The landslide has disrupted the natural flow of these water sources, creating flood-like conditions in surrounding areas. Mahesh Kumar, the Executive Officer of the Taluk Panchayat, confirmed that a detailed report will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner through the Tehsildar, acknowledging the extensive damage caused by this incident.
