Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern Coastal Andhra Pradesh Due to Low Pressure System
Weather Update for Northern Coastal Andhra Pradesh
On July 24, a potential low-pressure area is expected to form over the northern Bay of Bengal, which could lead to significant rainfall in certain regions of Northern Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP). According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the intensity of rainfall in NCAP is anticipated to increase after three days. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall has already been reported in parts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Cyclonic winds are persisting over the southern Odisha, NCAP, and Yanam regions, adjacent to the west-central Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a trough line is extending from South Karnataka to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), contributing to the ongoing rainfall.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall across various parts of Andhra Pradesh from July 21 to July 27. On July 21, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in SCAP, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h. A statement from the Amaravati Meteorological Centre indicated that thunderstorms and rainfall are likely in NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema.
During the forecast period, winds are expected to blow at speeds of 40-50 km/h across all four regions, with coastal areas experiencing even stronger gusts. The department noted that heavy rainfall is likely to continue in NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema from July 22 to July 25, with the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in some locations.
On July 26 and 27, heavy rainfall is anticipated in various areas of NCAP and Yanam, while thunderstorms are also expected in SCAP and Rayalaseema on July 26. The announcement mentioned that a new low-pressure area is likely to develop in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal around July 24, which could lead to further rainfall in the coming days.
