Elon Musk's X Platform Commits to Compliance After Government Warning on Obscene Content

X Acknowledges Mistakes and Pledges to Follow Indian Regulations

New Delhi: The microblogging platform X has admitted to its errors and has committed to adhering to Indian laws following a warning from the IT Ministry regarding inappropriate content associated with Grok AI, as reported by government sources on Sunday.

Approximately 3,500 pieces of content have been removed, and over 600 accounts have been terminated, according to the sources.

X has acknowledged its oversight and stated that it will ensure compliance with Indian regulations, emphasizing that obscene imagery will not be tolerated on the platform moving forward.

Previously, the government had requested X to provide details about the actions taken against obscene content linked to Grok AI and the measures implemented to prevent future occurrences, as the platform's initial response was deemed insufficient.

In its reply to the first notice, X detailed its stringent policies for removing misleading posts and non-consensual sexualized images.

However, the response lacked crucial information, such as specifics on takedown actions and measures regarding the Grok AI obscene content issue.

On January 2, the IT Ministry issued a firm warning to X concerning the generation of indecent and sexually explicit content through the misuse of AI tools like Grok.

X's 'Safety' handle stated last Sunday that it actively removes illegal content from its platform, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by suspending accounts and collaborating with local authorities as needed.

"Anyone using Grok to create illegal content will face the same repercussions as if they uploaded such content themselves," X reiterated, aligning with Musk's stance on illegal material.
