Overview of the Saheli Smart Card Initiative

The government of Delhi has unveiled the 'Saheli Smart Card' scheme, designed to enhance the accessibility of public transportation for women and the transgender community. This initiative marks a significant move towards empowering these groups within society. With this smart card, eligible users can travel on Delhi's public buses without the need for tickets or waiting in line.

Functionality of the Saheli Smart Card

The Saheli Smart Card is a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) tailored specifically for women and transgender residents of Delhi. Once issued, it can be utilized not only for bus travel but also across various public transport options, including the Delhi Metro and rapid trains. However, the free travel benefit is exclusively applicable to DTC and cluster buses.

Key Features of the Card

Convenience: Women will no longer need to purchase tickets from conductors; they can simply show their smart card.

One-Time Registration: The registration process for the card is entirely digital, requiring Aadhaar-based KYC through partner banks.

Multiple Uses: Besides buses, the card can be recharged for metro travel and, in the future, may also be applicable for auto rickshaws and taxis.

Cost-Free: The Delhi government covers the cost of the Saheli Smart Card, with banks potentially charging a minimal processing or delivery fee.
