AIIMS Bhubaneswar Achieves Remarkable Surgical Milestone

Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has proudly announced that it has successfully completed 100 robotic-assisted surgeries in just four and a half months since the program's inception.

The robotic surgery system was inaugurated virtually by Union Health Minister J P Nadda on February 23.

To celebrate this significant achievement, a special event was held at the institute on Friday.

This accomplishment positions AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the first government-funded medical facility in Odisha to establish a fully operational, multi-disciplinary robotic surgical program, providing advanced surgical options to economically disadvantaged and middle-income patients at reasonable prices.

The robotic surgeries were conducted across five key departments, including General Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as specialized operations like robotic bariatric surgery and intricate pediatric surgeries.

Ashutosh Biswas, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, emphasized that this milestone demonstrates the institute's dedication to enhancing healthcare accessibility in Odisha.

He remarked, "We have made the world's most advanced surgical technology accessible to all. We are excited to usher the state into a new era characterized by surgical precision and affordable excellence."

Before this initiative, patients in need of advanced minimally invasive robotic surgeries had to seek treatment in major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, or New Delhi, often facing significant financial burdens, according to an AIIMS representative.
