ADB Approves ₹975 Crore Loan for Tripura's Industrial Development
Major Infrastructure Boost for Tripura
Agartala: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a substantial loan of ₹975.26 crore aimed at enhancing infrastructure across nine industrial zones in Tripura, as confirmed by an official on Monday.
Nabadal Banik, Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), stated that the project will involve the construction of industrial sheds, power substations, underground electrical lines, fire service stations, and the development of 34 roads.
He remarked, “The ADB has sanctioned ₹975.26 crore to establish world-class infrastructure for the advancement of nine industrial belts in Tripura. The implementation phase is currently in progress.”
The designated industrial zones include Bodhjungnagar, RK Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar, among others.
Banik also mentioned that the state government has allocated land for industrial development at Santirbazar (127 acres) in South Tripura and Fatikroy (28 acres) in Unakoti district.
He added, “The TIDC has initiated demarcation efforts to commence infrastructure development in these new areas. We are committed to ensuring that no land designated for industrial use remains idle for extended periods.”
Furthermore, the TIDC has reclaimed 28 acres from 24 inactive industrial units to accommodate new entrepreneurs eager to establish businesses in the northeastern state.
Banik highlighted a new initiative to foster the plywood industry, noting that two plywood manufacturing units are currently operational, with seven additional units planned.
He explained, “Tripura boasts a rubber plantation area of 110,000 hectares, of which approximately 10,000 hectares are considered senile. We are promoting rubber wood-based plywood production. If these initiatives succeed, Tripura could emerge as a leading state in plywood manufacturing.”
The term 'senile rubber plantation' refers to trees that are aged and no longer productive.
