Vedanta's Commitment to Sustainability

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move towards environmental stewardship, Vedanta Aluminium, the leading aluminium producer in India, has initiated a large-scale plantation campaign named ‘Mo Gachha Mo Parivar’ in the Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, coinciding with World Environment Day 2025.

The initiative aims to plant over 100,000 fruit-bearing saplings in these districts, with the goal of benefiting more than 30,000 rural households. The selected species, including mango, guava, jackfruit, and moringa, are chosen for their ecological, nutritional, and economic benefits.

The campaign commenced with a community-driven plantation event at Balabhadrapur village and Vedanta’s facility, engaging over 600 participants, including employees, local leaders, school children, government representatives, and community members.

This plantation effort is closely linked to the theme ‘Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar’, symbolizing a commitment to treat each tree as a family member. Beyond enhancing the local landscape, the initiative is projected to offset around 150,000 tonnes of carbon emissions throughout the trees' lifespan.

It will also promote biodiversity and aid in the restoration of natural forests, while improving soil retention and mitigating erosion.

By introducing fruit-bearing trees, the project aims to bolster rural economies through harvesting and related income-generating activities.

Moreover, it will enhance climate resilience in vulnerable ecological areas. Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, remarked, “At Vedanta Lanjigarh, sustainability is not merely a duty; it’s integral to our lifestyle.

Through ‘Mo Gachha Mo Parivar’, we are planting seeds of hope, unity, and prosperity. We take pride in collaborating with the community for a greener and more resilient future.”
