During a recent visit, Dr. Janak Raj, the MLA for Barmour–Pangi, underscored the significance of the ongoing research at the Northern Temperate Regional Station (NTRS) of the Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) located in Garsa.

Throughout his visit, Dr. Raj assessed various research initiatives at the institute, particularly focusing on the conservation and enhancement of the Gaddi sheep breed and the Angora rabbit species. The scientists at the station detailed their efforts to improve breed quality, boost production, and ensure these animals can thrive in local environments.

They highlighted that this research is essential for bolstering the livelihoods of communities in Himachal Pradesh that rely on livestock, especially in the mountainous areas. The Gaddi sheep and Angora rabbits play a crucial role not only in wool production but also in the traditional pastoral practices of the region.

Additionally, it was mentioned that CSWRI plans to continue launching new research programs and initiatives aimed at the long-term conservation and development of these species, which will directly benefit local farmers and pastoralists.
