Severe Rain Causes School Students to Get Trapped in Jharkhand

In Khunti district, Jharkhand, two school students became trapped under the debris of a collapsed well due to heavy rainfall. This unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday when the students were near the well in the Murhu Panchayat area, as reported by an official on Thursday.
Rescue Operations Underway
R. Ronita, the Deputy Commissioner of Khunti, informed that a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for the rescue efforts. The operation has been ongoing since Wednesday night, but the students' whereabouts remain unknown.
Infrastructure Damage Due to Rain
The heavy rainfall has also led to the collapse of a section of a bridge over a river in Torpa, disrupting the Khunti-Simdega road. Ronita mentioned that an alternative route has been established, and an NDRF team has been dispatched to the area.
Impact on Daily Life
An official stated that life has been significantly affected in several districts, including Ranchi, due to the intense rainfall. Consequently, schools in Ranchi and Khunti, among other districts, have been closed on Thursday.
Preparedness for Adverse Conditions
NDRF officials have indicated that teams are on high alert to handle any emergencies in these districts. A meteorological officer noted that Ranchi has experienced heavy downpours for the past two days, with persistent rain continuing from Thursday morning.
Weather Alerts Issued
Abhishek Anand, the Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Center, announced that a 'Red Alert' has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega due to a low-pressure area forming over northeastern Jharkhand.
Forecast for the Coming Days
He further explained that a low-pressure area near the coastal regions of West Bengal is gradually moving northwest and reached the northeastern parts of Jharkhand and adjacent coastal areas of West Bengal by 5:30 AM today. It is expected to continue moving northwest over the next 24 hours.
