Introduction of Robotic Surgery at SCB Medical College

Kataka: The Sri Ramachandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) is set to launch robotic surgery capabilities, featuring two advanced robotic systems in its neurology and surgical departments, as confirmed by hospital officials.

These robotic machines are anticipated to be acquired in collaboration with the state government, with installation planned for January. This marks the inaugural introduction of robotic surgical technology at the medical college.

Medical professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, nursing staff, and other personnel in the operating rooms, will receive training on how to operate and assist with these machines. The training will be conducted by representatives from the equipment supplier prior to the machines' installation.

This initiative aligns with the state government's vision to transform SCB into an AIIMS-plus facility. Robotic surgery is expected to be operational by next year, enabling the execution of intricate surgical procedures. Unlike traditional open and laparoscopic surgeries, where surgeons are physically present with the patient, robotic surgery allows surgeons to control robotic instruments from a separate location while the system performs the procedure near the patient.

Additionally, this technology will enable qualified doctors from outside the state to conduct complex surgeries on SCB patients remotely, as stated by hospital authorities.

Officials noted that the implementation of robotic surgery will enhance the hospital's ability to perform complex operations and could potentially shorten the duration of certain major surgeries.
