Palampur: A significant meeting focused on enhancing traffic management in Palampur took place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Netra Meti. The primary goal was to optimize vehicle movement, minimize congestion, and improve the overall commuting experience for residents.

The meeting included key figures such as Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Negi, HRTC Sub-Divisional Manager Uttam, officials from the Public Works Department, and members of the Palampur Trade Association, including president Surinder Sood and general secretary Bhrigu.

In-depth discussions were conducted regarding strategies to alleviate congestion in critical areas and facilitate smoother traffic flow. A pivotal decision made was to reroute all Volvo buses through Kalu Di Hatti towards Baijnath between 5 am and 8 am to lessen the traffic load near the Sabzi Mandi area.

To address congestion at the Palampur Old Bus Stand, the SDM mandated that no more than two buses should be allowed to stop simultaneously, and only for a maximum of five minutes. She also instructed the police to strictly enforce the one-way traffic system in that area.

The trader association was encouraged to manage the loading and unloading of goods outside their shops, restricting these activities to specific hours to avoid traffic disruptions during peak periods.

Another significant outcome of the meeting was the establishment of a joint committee led by the SDM, which will include officials from the Municipal Corporation, police, and the Public Works Department. This committee is tasked with conducting regular operations to eliminate encroachments within Palampur's urban boundaries.

SDM Meti emphasized that successful traffic management relies heavily on the active collaboration of local residents, business owners, and enforcement agencies.
