IPL 2025 Resumes: Key Matches and Playoff Scenarios Ahead

IPL 2025 Set to Resume
The IPL 2025 tournament, which faced a one-week delay due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, is now scheduled to restart on May 17. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a new timetable for the remaining 17 matches.
The first game following the break will feature Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squaring off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), with the championship match planned for June 3. Currently, seven teams are vying for playoff positions, while three have already been eliminated. For two teams, the upcoming matches are critical, as any further losses could end their chances.
Current Standings in IPL 2025
Gujarat Titans and RCB lead the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points each, followed closely by Punjab Kings (15 points) and Mumbai Indians (14 points).

As it stands, Gujarat Titans (GT) are at the top of the points table, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in second place. Punjab Kings (PBKS) follow in third, while Mumbai Indians (MI) hold the fourth position.
Both GT and RCB have accumulated 16 points, and a victory for either team will guarantee their advancement to the playoffs. Punjab Kings, with 15 points, are also just one win away from securing their playoff berth.
Intensifying Playoff Race
The competition for playoff spots is becoming increasingly fierce. Mumbai Indians currently have 14 points from 12 matches, while Delhi Capitals (DC) are close behind with 13 points from 11 matches. To qualify, MI must win both of their remaining matches, whereas DC needs to secure victories in all three of their upcoming games.
Critical Matches for KKR and LSG
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) find themselves in a challenging situation, positioned sixth and seventh, respectively. KKR has won 5 out of 12 matches, while LSG has also won 5 but from 11 matches.
A loss for either team could result in elimination from playoff contention. KKR's next match is against RCB on May 17, and a defeat would mean the end of their IPL 2025 journey.
