Formation of the Zubeen Garg Trust
Guwahati, Jan 3: On Friday, family and friends of the renowned singer Zubeen Garg announced the establishment of a Trust in his honor, aimed at preserving his extensive body of work and promoting his legacy across various fields beyond music.
Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen's wife, shared with the media that the Trust will be named the Zubeen Garg Trust and will consist of three distinct branches.
The Trust will operate from Zubeen Garg's residence in Kharguli. It will encompass the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation and the Abhinaya Jonkie Borthakur Performing Arts Academy, along with a specialized research division.
Garima emphasized that the Trust will engage in various activities, including social initiatives, cultural projects, conservation efforts, and nurturing young talent. Additionally, it will safeguard the intellectual property of the beloved musician.
She noted that Zubeen wished for his creative contributions to be celebrated rather than mourned. "The Trust will collaborate closely with the Zubeen Garg Fan Club," she added.
Zubeen's sister, Palmee Borthakur, expressed the profound impact of his passing, stating, "Everything has come to a halt since his departure. However, we must pursue his dreams collectively. Reflecting on his life, it's hard to grasp how Zubeen managed such a vast array of responsibilities alone."
"We need to uphold his ideals, philosophy, and his commitment to serving the community," she remarked.
Friends of Zubeen present at the announcement highlighted that the Trust aims to continue his philanthropic legacy, which has positively influenced many lives.
Manoj Borthakur, Zubeen's uncle, mentioned that the Trust will serve as a platform for emerging singers and writers.
Filmmaker Shyamanta Gautam revealed plans to create staff notation for approximately 100 of Zubeen's songs through the Trust, along with finalizing many of his unfinished projects.
