Zelenskyy Advocates for Trilateral Summit with Russia and the US to End Conflict
Zelenskyy's Call for Peace Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a trilateral summit that would include Russia and the United States, aiming to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Open to Various Meeting Formats
As reported, Zelenskyy expressed his willingness to engage in any format of discussions, suggesting that if Russian President Vladimir Putin is hesitant about a bilateral meeting, he is open to a trilateral approach.
US President's Warning to Putin
On May 27, former US President Donald Trump cautioned Putin, stating that he is 'playing with fire' by delaying the peace negotiations with Ukraine. In a post on his social media platform, Trump remarked, 'What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire.'
Trump's Criticism of Putin's Actions
Trump's comments followed a strong condemnation of Putin, accusing him of 'going absolutely crazy' and causing unnecessary casualties in Ukraine, including among civilians.
Concerns Over Civilian Casualties
In his statement, Trump highlighted the tragic impact of the conflict, stating, 'Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.' He reiterated his belief that Putin's ambitions extend beyond a mere territorial claim, warning that such desires could lead to 'the downfall of Russia.'
Critique of Zelenskyy's Approach
Trump also criticized Zelenskyy, suggesting that his rhetoric is detrimental to Ukraine's interests. He stated, 'Everything out of his (Zelensky) mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.'
