YouTuber McJuggerNuggets Faces Backlash After Pregnancy Termination Announcement
McJuggerNuggets and Wife Confront Online Hate
Jesse Ridgway, known as McJuggerNuggets, along with his wife Ashley, has reported receiving numerous death threats and hateful messages following their announcement about terminating a pregnancy due to a Down syndrome diagnosis. In a series of Instagram Stories shared on June 4, Ridgway addressed the intense backlash they faced after revealing their difficult choice to end the pregnancy earlier that week. He expressed his shock at the level of hate directed towards them, stating, "I’ve never seen such hate and vitriol for two people grieving the loss of their unborn child and making an impossible decision."
Ridgway detailed the harsh comments they received, including being labeled as "murderous pieces of s--t" and being compared to Adolf Hitler, alongside receiving what he termed as "NON-STOP DEATH THREATS." He also mentioned that some critics referenced their 6-year-old dog, who is suffering from Stage 4 kidney disease, in their attacks. "Seeing my 6-year-old dog with Stage 4 Kidney Disease be used as a weapon... is absolute insanity," he remarked.
The couple, based in New Jersey, described their experience as "extremely traumatic" after making the decision to terminate the pregnancy following the diagnosis of Down syndrome, also known as Trisomy 21. Ridgway noted that much of the criticism stemmed from individuals using religious beliefs to condemn their choice. He pointed out the hypocrisy in those who invoke God or Jesus to justify their threats against them.
Ridgway also responded to comments suggesting they should have chosen adoption or raised a child with Down syndrome, stating, "So many saying they would've kept the child, put it up for adoption or are suddenly ready to adopt a down syndrome child, that's great! You can do all those things. This was ours and we can do that."
Why Ridgway Chose to Share Their Experience
Ridgway expressed his astonishment that their abortion decision garnered significant media attention, emphasizing that abortions happen daily across the United States and that terminating a pregnancy after a Down syndrome diagnosis is not uncommon. He stated, "The reason this blew up is quite simple: IT'S BECAUSE NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT."
Despite the negative reactions, Ridgway affirmed that he does not regret sharing their story and hopes it encourages others in similar situations. "I'm glad I can help further the conversation. That's exactly why I wanted to share this story," he wrote. He added that many mothers reached out to thank them for discussing a topic often kept in silence. Ridgway concluded with a message of support for those affected by similar circumstances, urging them not to let the vocal minority silence their truth.
