New Delhi/Mumbai: On Saturday, opposition parties hailed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in connection with the NEET paper leak scandal as a significant victory for democracy. They asserted that the Modi administration had to concede to the united efforts of the nation's youth, emphasizing the need for educational reforms.

Congress leaders attributed the government's retreat to Rahul Gandhi's influence, while the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha praised the youth and students for their steadfastness in defending democracy, the Constitution, and their futures.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the youth and insisted on strict measures against those who used force against the demonstrators.

Kharge characterized Pradhan's resignation as a triumph of truth, claiming that Modi's obstinacy had been overcome.

Gandhi stated, "We are committed to safeguarding the students of India and their future. This is a battle between Narendra Modi and the RSS, representing the past, and the future of India, which we believe will prevail."

He warned that the BJP-RSS regime could not govern as if it were their personal domain and would face a much larger uprising if they attempted to do so again.

Gandhi and other opposition figures supported the Cockroach Janta Party's protests, which demanded Pradhan's resignation and called for educational reforms, with many visiting the protest site at Jantar Mantar.

The CJP concluded its 36-day protest following Pradhan's resignation and the government's acceptance of their demands.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray remarked that the youth had liberated the country from an "atmosphere of fear."

"A cockroach has made a dictator bow," the former Maharashtra chief minister quipped during a joint press conference after Pradhan's resignation.

NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar urged Prime Minister Modi to engage in dialogue with CJP leaders and refrain from using force against the young demonstrators.

Pawar commended the youth's unwavering commitment over 28 days at Jantar Mantar regarding the NEET paper leak, stating, "This struggle against oppression is a testament to the power of democracy and a significant victory for the unity of youth in our nation."

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav noted that despite being the "world's largest party," the BJP had to yield to a "revolution" led by the youth.

He remarked that the resignation was "long overdue" and that the government could have avoided unnecessary tensions by initiating discussions earlier.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed that this development has restored public faith in democracy, highlighting that governments must heed the people's voice. He hopes the government will now reform the examination system to prevent future paper leaks and ensure no child is driven to suicide again.

"Democracy is for the people, by the people, and of the people. I trust the government will rectify the NEET system to eliminate paper leaks and protect our children," Kejriwal stated.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai credited the victory to "lakhs of diligent students who stood firm on the streets" and acknowledged Rahul Gandhi's role.

"This is undoubtedly our victory, a triumph for our leader Rahul Gandhi, who championed this issue nationally. Unlike others who withdrew, he remained steadfast with the protesting students," Rai told media.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati cautioned that political disputes should not overshadow the urgent need for comprehensive educational reforms.

In a post on X, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister noted that while the protesters' demands for Pradhan's resignation became a focal point of political contention, the essential issue of reforming the examination system should not be neglected.

"Although the peaceful sit-in at Jantar Mantar garnered significant public support, both the opposition and the government are engaged in intense political maneuvering over the protesters' demands. The critical need for comprehensive educational reforms must not be overlooked," she stated.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia asserted that moral accountability has finally been established and called for the Bhagwant Mann government to be held responsible for the alleged paper leaks in the state.

"Since the Aam Aadmi Party took power in Punjab, numerous examinations have been marred by controversies," he claimed.

Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan described the outcome as a victory for students nationwide, praising Rahul Gandhi and other opposition parties for their unwavering support during the protests.

CPI(M) veteran and Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan stated that Pradhan's resignation is a hard-fought victory achieved by students who stood "resolutely against oppression."

"The NTA must undergo fundamental restructuring, and the fight against the National Education Policy, which centralizes authority and undermines state rights, must persist. India deserves an education system that is transparent, accountable, and rooted in federalism," he emphasized.

CPI leader Binoy Viswam labeled it a "historic victory" that compelled Prime Minister Modi to "bow before the collective struggle" of students and the populace.

"If the Modi government was previously defeated by the farmers' movement, it has now succumbed to the united struggle of students and citizens," he concluded.
