Youth Congress Protest Leads to Arrests: What Happened at the India AI Impact Summit?
Court Orders Police Custody for Youth Congress Protesters
New Delhi: A Delhi court has ordered that five Youth Congress members, arrested during a protest at the India AI Impact Summit, be held in police custody for three days.
The Patiala House Court directed that the accused—Saurabh, Arbaaz, Siddharth, Ajay, and Raja Gurjar—be presented again on March 1.
Saurabh, Arbaaz, and Siddharth were apprehended in Himachal Pradesh before being transported to Delhi, while Ajay and Raja Gurjar were already in custody related to the case.
Previously, a tense standoff occurred between the Delhi Police and Himachal Pradesh Police when three Youth Congress activists were detained in Rohru, Shimla.
The Himachal Police filed a kidnapping complaint against the Delhi officers and briefly held them near the Shoghi border before allowing transit remand via a local court.
After completing legal procedures, the three accused—Saurabh, Arbaaz, and Siddharth—were brought to the capital.
Delhi Police asserts that none of the three are residents of Himachal Pradesh and that they allegedly evaded capture following the protest. Of the trio, two participated in the demonstration, while one is accused of conspiracy.
Earlier, four Youth Congress members were remanded to five days of police custody after their arrest during the high-profile summit protest.
On February 24, the court also placed Indian Youth Congress (IYC) National President Uday Bhanu Chib in police custody for four days following his arrest linked to the incident.
Authorities claim that Chib was uncooperative during questioning and did not provide information regarding the absconding co-accused or the source of the T-shirts used in the protest.
This protest has sparked a political controversy, with the Bharatiya Janata Party condemning it as an effort to damage India's international reputation, while the Congress party defends it as a peaceful demonstration addressing youth concerns.
