Youth Congress Leader Uday Bhanu Chib Sent to Police Custody Amid Protests

Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, has been placed in police custody for four days after his arrest during a protest at the India AI Impact Summit. The protest, which involved accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has led to multiple arrests and sparked significant political controversy. Chib's claims of the protest being a legitimate expression of dissent contrast with police allegations of a planned disruption. The Congress party has condemned the arrest, framing it as an attack on democratic rights. Court Orders Custody for Uday Bhanu Chib

A court in Delhi has placed Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, in police custody for four days following his involvement in a protest at the India AI Impact Summit.

Chib was summoned for questioning by the Delhi Police on Monday and subsequently arrested the following morning.

This marks the eighth arrest related to the protest, with three other Youth Congress officials—Jitendra Yadav, Raja Gujar, and Vimal Ajay Kumar—also taken into custody on Monday.

Yadav, who hails from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, serves as the national coordinator for the Indian Youth Congress. Gujar leads the youth wing's Gwalior unit, while Kumar holds a position in Bhind.

During the summit, at least 11 individuals participated in the protest.

In response, the Delhi Police filed a first information report citing various charges, including criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly.

The demonstrators voiced their dissent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being 'compromised' through their slogans and placards.

On Saturday, four party members were also remanded to five days of police custody.

When presenting Chib before Judicial Magistrate First Class Ravi, the police claimed he was the 'mastermind' behind the protest, despite his absence during the event. They alleged he was actively monitoring the situation and was aware that the protest could escalate into a riot.

Chib refuted these claims, describing them as an attempt to instigate unrest and asserting that the protest was merely a form of criticism. He questioned whether expressing dissent had become a crime.

The police suggested that the protest was part of a broader conspiracy, allegedly inspired by recent youth-led movements in Nepal, aimed at disrupting the high-profile summit at Bharat Mandapam.

The five-day India AI Impact Summit commenced on February 16 in New Delhi, featuring participation from 20 global leaders and tech executives from 30 nations.

The Congress party condemned Chib's arrest as 'brazenly illegal' and expressed solidarity with him.

Rahul Gandhi, a prominent party leader, stated that the arrest of Chib and his colleagues for revealing the truth reflects dictatorial tendencies and cowardice. He praised the Youth Congress members for their courageous stance against the 'COMPROMISED PM'.

Jairam Ramesh, another Congress member, criticized Chib's arrest as a form of political harassment, asserting that it was an attempt by the Prime Minister to divert attention from uncomfortable truths about his administration.

On Sunday, Modi criticized the Youth Congress for allegedly using an international event as a stage for 'gandi aur nangi [dirty and shameless]' politics.
