Incident in Meerut District

In the Lisadi Gate area of Meerut district, law enforcement has apprehended a young man accused of marrying a woman in a temple while allegedly hiding his name and religion. Following the revelation of his true identity, he reportedly assaulted her and pressured her to convert to his faith. This information was disclosed by the police on Tuesday.


The accused, identified as Mubassir, 24, was named in a complaint filed by the victim on June 7 at the police station. According to the police, the victim claimed that Mubassir concealed his identity and married her in a temple.


Once the woman discovered his actual name and religion, he allegedly verbally abused her, physically assaulted her, and demanded five lakh rupees while insisting she convert.


Authorities have stated that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, including the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. Mubassir was arrested near the Pilokhari bridge, and the police confirmed that further legal actions are underway.
