A young woman from Dungargarh has raised serious concerns about her safety, claiming that her parents pose a threat to her life. This revelation comes after 22 years of nurturing from her parents, which she feels has been overshadowed by a brief romance that began on Instagram just a year and a half ago.
The woman stated that her parents have lost their dignity through their actions. It has become increasingly common to see young women abandoning their families for relationships formed online, often through platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Families of these girls frequently find themselves hiding from societal judgment, while the girls themselves seek refuge in police stations, alleging threats from their own families.
In a recent incident, 22-year-old Lakshmi Nai from Dungargarh eloped with Akashdeep, a resident of Sardarshahr. The couple prepared a cohabitation agreement and subsequently approached the local police for protection. Lakshmi revealed that she met Akashdeep on Instagram about a year and a half ago.
Their relationship blossomed through phone conversations, leading them to decide on marriage. However, when Lakshmi informed her parents about Akashdeep two months ago, they disapproved after hearing negative comments about him, including claims of gambling and substance abuse.
Lakshmi expressed her frustration, stating that her parents did not believe her and instead chose to listen to others. She emphasized that if her parents do not care about their own reputation, she sees no reason to uphold it for them. With a desire to live life on her own terms, Lakshmi, who has completed her education up to the 12th grade, felt compelled to act.
While her parents searched for a suitable match for her, Lakshmi took a bold step by leaving home to be with Akashdeep. They prepared the necessary documents to live together, but when they sought help from the police, her parents arrived, pleading with her to return home.
Despite her parents' tears and pleas, Lakshmi chose to leave with Akashdeep. She works in tailoring, while Akashdeep is employed at an electrician's shop. Lakshmi has expressed fears for her safety from her family, prompting her request for police protection. Akashdeep assured that he is committed to taking care of Lakshmi and supporting her for life.
